Wreck And Reference - Want FLAC album
Wreck and Reference serve up a slightly different, and more dismal, blend of extreme music styles coming together on this new album of theirs. Y'all know this is just my opinion, right? What did you think of this album? Love it? Hate it?
Wreck and Reference is an experimental rock group based in Los Angeles, California. The group has been closely associated with San Francisco-based record label The Flenser. Wreck and Reference (sometime stylized Wreck & Reference or W&R) begun as a garage project in Davis, CA in 2009.
Want is a bombastic album, but also manages to slow down and make some ambient mood pieces. The samples in the album include bones rattling, simple piano, haunting bass lines, feedback out of your nightmares, and loud chorus music. Wreck and Reference really fill up every track with walls of sound that never cease to thrill. Vocally, Want is a massive improvement over No Youth. The harsh styling really has more emphasis from beginning to end, creating a stark contrast from the almost-spoken word elements mixed in throughout

Wreck and Reference bear all the scars of a metal act, but their music is fraught with a traumatic amnesia as to what that might constitute. As a listener, there’s no reason for trying to find out what happened, for trying to grapple with this mawkish tirade of vocals, percussion, and electronics; one can’t help but embrace this record for what it is and sink into the perpetual misery of its makeup. Ignat Frege and Felix Skinner have been dropping material as Wreck and Reference since their inaugural Black Cassette, which was self-released on Bandcamp in 2011. Although they have rebounded from the fuzz-riddled, lo-fi debauchery of their debut, it was evident back then that they were a force to be reckoned with, that the group had the potential to reap the most atrocious of atmospheres.
The California duo Wreck and Reference strip away the basics of metal, redefining the genre even as they sit outside it. On their new album, their songcraft catches up to their uncompromising gloom. They fit into the modern metal landscape that seeks to redefine itself, even if they don't necessarily see themselves as metal. Wreck and Reference are nowhere near synth-pop, but Indifferent shows that they think like a smart synth-pop group: using electronic layers as tools to advance compositions, not textural ends in and of themselves.
