It's never too late to reinvent yourself
Austrian trio Tracker wakes up the Krautrock tendencies in us all, mixes them with classic-era Morphine, and emerges with a pretty good, if occasionally tentative, release. Part of the problem with How I Became An Alien is the album’s mix. The backing tracks sound cool and distant, removed from the vocals to the point that songs such as Recommended Fool sound like a karaoke session more than a band ripping up the grooves with its own brand of awesomeness. When Tracker hits, however, it hits hard, as evidenced on Blower and the dirge-y The Hypnotized
How I became an Alien' contains some songs from last year's EP which have been eworked, and some new tracks like 'tight fit', 'blower' and 'impregnated eye'. Tracker create soundscapes in the classic rock trio format with cals. These are only cornerstones for a much more multilayered sound. Nasty sounds from self built fuzz boxes meet psychedelic space parts, kaossilators compete with bizarre iPhone-synths, fat desert riffs dance with grumpy lo-fi beats and the dusty elegance of desert rock is hijacked by monotone kraut-beats.

How to be an Alien (1946) is a humorous book by George Mikes, illustrated by Nicolas Bentley. It was Mikes' second book and is the most famous of the 44 he wrote. It is a classic of British humour and by its 32nd impression in 1966 had sold over 300,000 copies. It pokes gentle fun at the English and their relationship with foreigners, "alien" meaning in this context any non-English person. The book is characterised by much humour, affection and a total lack of rancour or bitterness
