Münchener Bach-Chor is a mixed choir for concert and oratorio in Munich. Performances, international tours and recordings with Karl Richter and the Münchener Bach-Orchester made the choir internationally known. The choir was founded after World War II by Wilhelm Kamlah as Heinrich-Schütz-Kreis at the Protestant church St. Markus in Munich. The group introduced the music of the Protestant Heinrich Schütz to the predominantly Catholic Munich. The choir was later directed by Michael Schneider.

Münchener Bach-Chor (The Munich Bach Choir) is one of the large choirs of the German speaking countries. With approximately 120 members it has for almost half a century gained unique renown through concerts, recordings and film amongst music lovers all over the world. The main focus of its choral work is based on the great oratorios of . Mozart, Felix Mendelssohn, Verdi, Johannes Brahms and Bruckner. Its critically acclaimed high standard of choral performance is due to the dedicated commitment of its founder Karl Richter (1954-1981) and of its current resident conductor Hanns-Martin Schneidt (1984-2005) whose assured style of interpretation has set multiple new standards. From September 2005 Hansjörg Albrecht is the musical director (and conductor) of the Münchener Bach-Chor.
Karl Richter is a superb Bach interpret, and the singers are outstanding: Christa Ludwig as alto, Gundula Janowitz as soprano, Fritz Wunderlich as tenor and evangelist. I have listened to this production on a 33-record for years and was delighted to find a digital recording. 4 people found this helpful.
