Tracing Jerry Lee Lewis' '60s career at Smash Records, the first two discs find the pianist trying to replicate his rock & roll success; while the performances were good, it was clear he was out of touch with the times. During the third disc, he begins to concentrate on country music. The fourth, fifth, and sixth discs match his Sun recordings for consistently brilliant performances; several of the songs became big hits on the country charts, establishing him as a country star.

Rock & roll legend Jerry Lee Lewis is set to have a big year, as the 78-year-old Killer will release Rock & Roll Time, his third album in a decade, and Jerry Lee Lewis: His Own Story, a biography written by Pulitzer Prize winner Rick Bragg, on October 28th. Moby Explains Why Jerry Lee Lewis Is One of Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Artists. In advance of the album, his first for Vanguard Records, Lewis is sharing the title track below - what he tells Rolling Stone is the best one on there - originally co-written and recorded by Kris Kristofferson in 1974. In reverence to his past, the album cover sports a shot of Lewis in front of the old Sun Studios building, located in Memphis about eight minutes from the studio where the Killer recorded most of Rock & Roll Time. It was all right, he says of visiting his old haunt. It brought back a lot of memories: Pretty good memories, bad memories, semi memories.
Album · 1961 · 12 Songs. Don't be confused by the title; this 1961 release isn't a best-of. It's Jerry Lee Lewis's second and final LP for Sun Records. He was much more prolific on the singles end during his Sun tenure. The best-known cut here is his 1957 smash "Great Balls of Fire," which had never been on an LP before. With Lewis in l mode, Sun may have figured that an old hit would help the album's sales. In fact, The Killer's loose-limbed version of Ray Charles' "What'd I Say" here would be his biggest pop hit for the next decade
