Sun Ra and his Myth Science Arkestra. Sun Ra and his Arkestra. Previously unreleased album which was planned for release and shelved by Impulse! in the 1970s.

The Heliocentric Worlds of Sun Ra, Volume Two is a 1965 recording by the jazz musician Sun Ra and his Solar Arkestra. Where Volume One of the Heliocentric Worlds series had predominantly featured short abstract pieces, Volume Two features longer pieces performed by a smaller group, making it closer in spirit to the contemporaneous The Magic City, released on Ra's own Saturn label. The record has been widely bootlegged, some versions of which were retitled The Sun Myth.

The bright star in the middle is Sirius, the brightest star in the sky and part of the constellation Canis Major. Part of the constellation Orion can be seen in the top right. The early version of "The Sun Myth," featuring a soundtrack of African chanting underneath the Arkestra's studio performance, appeared on the first pressing of The Heliocentric Worlds of Sun Ra, Vol. 2. However, the chant is absent from the more commonly known commercial mix of the title. In fact, before it was removed from the mix entirely, the chant was mixed lower on the album's second pressing; it could be heard, but distantly. On the third pressing - no chant! How it came to be included in the first place was presumably Sun Ra's decision, and anybody's guess.

The peasant woman had two children, a son and daughter. Haesik, the elder of the two, was a wise and responsible son. While her daughter, Dalsun, had an innocent and trusting young heart. The children lived in a valley far from the closest village and every day their mother would walk to the village to sell her delicious rice-cakes. A little way up to the heavens the rope broke and he plunged down from the sky into a millet field, spilling his blood and making the millet stalk red. In heaven, Haesik became the sun ( Haennim ) and Dalsun became the moon ( Dallim ). Some versions of this tale go on to say that Dalsun, being so young, was afraid of the dark, so her older brother decided to swap places with her, allowing her to become the sun. MORAL

Myth 6: The sun is not a star because it doesn't shine at night. Reality 6: The sun is the closest star to Earth and provides us with most of our energy and light. Meteors are the bright flashes of light seen in the night sky. They are caused by meteoroids - small, solid objects moving through space that have entered Earth's atmosphere. Usually, the meteoroids burn up in the atmosphere and never reach the ground.
