Tune-Yards - Whokill FLAC album

Album · 2011 · 11 Songs. My Country opens Whokill with a vibrant explosion of colorful sounds, the hollow whomp of a floor tom and a surprise, metallic cartwheel of a keyboard note joined by (surprise again) freewheeling saxophones. The ukulele that was so ubiquitous on her Bird Brains debut only makes scattered appearances here; Whokill serves up exuberant, white-hot energy, pouring forth from jazzy horns and bass, clattering percussion, and brick-hard rhythms. not to mention, of course, Garbus’ show-stopping vocals

With the beyond-lo-fi sound and multi-genre blend on her debut 2009 debut Bird-Brains, Merrill Garbus, aka tUnE-yArDs, sure set the bar high for her sophomore release. Luckily, the New England native succeeds in this difficult but rewarding task with whokill, due April 18. Mixing the upbeat with the oddball funk, she manages to clean up the sound while maintaining the rawness of her acclaimed debut. Listen to full album stream below, courtesy of The Guardian.

Tune-Yards, "whokill". On the follow-up to her 2009 breakthrough album, "Bird-Brains," Merrill Garbus (aka Tune-Yards) again creates a clamorous assemblage of warm, overdriven kitchen-sink instrumentation, field hollering, layered stacks of processed vocals and a sonic smorgasbord culled from the world cafe-only more so. The sound collages on "whokill" are bolder and brasher as the Oakland, Calif.

Tune-Yards: Tune-Yards is the music project of New England native Merrill Garbus, with long-time collaborator, bassist Nate Brenner.
