Elizabeth & The Catapult. Released October 20, 2017. 1. We Can Pretend Lyrics.
Keepsake, the fourth album recorded under the imprimatur of her erstwhile day job, maintains a fanciful approach through even the most sorrowful themes. It’s an arresting next step from the talented songwriter, but, despite lyrical reflections their author believes to be her most personal, the keening theatricality still renders its subject alluringly remote. In a way, to be sure, that coherency of approach seems no small miracle given the circumstances of Keepsake ’s creation.

Elizabeth's dream journals turned into lyrics and though she had already written dozens of songs for the follow-up to her 2014 album Like It Never Happened, she kept coming back to songs that focused on her dreams. Eventually, the loose memory-focused concept that weaves through Keepsake began to take shape.
2017 release from singer/songwriter Elizabeth Ziman AKA Elizabeth The Catapult. Like many New York stories, this one starts with a landlord threatening to jack up the rent. It was a particularly frigid February when Elizabeth moved out of her apartment, which housed her beloved baby grand piano, into a small windowless room across the street, and came down with a nasty, lingering flu. Anxious and feverish, her dreams became more lucid than ever, so she started writing them down in a dream journal. Tracklist: 01. We Can Pretend 02.
Keepsake is the fourth album and Compass Records debut of Elizabeth & the Catapult, the project of New York singer/songwriter Elizabeth Ziman. Following 2014's Like It Never Happened by three years, it was written and recorded at various stops in the interim, with six different producers not counting Ziman herself. In addition to touring and appearing on albums by bands like Kishi Bashi and Son Lux during that stretch, she also carved time to score a handful of documentary films with Paul Brill.
