After the release of Split Enz 1982 album Time and Tide, Tim Finn decided to give the band a break after 10 years. Younger brother Neil Finn worked on some demos for the upcoming Split Enz album, while percussionist Noel Crombie released the single My Voice Keeps Changing On Me. It was Tim's intention to take the time to work some of the new songs that he wanted to release, but felt were not Enz material. On the radio documentary Enzology Tim says that he tried some of the songs out with the band (he names Fraction Too Much Friction), but it just wasn't working.

Singer/songwriter t Tim Finn was born in Te Awamutu, New Zealand. Influenced by not only British Invasion acts like the Beatles, the Move, and the Kinks, but also his Catholic upbringing and the communal singalongs of the native Maori people, Finn founded the '70s art-rock turne. .He joined his brother Neil Finn's band, Crowded House, for their Woodface album but left mid-tour and released his fourth solo album, Before and After in 1993. In 1995, he joined with Hothouse Flowers' Liam O Maonlai and Andy White, releasing an album under the group name ALT.
Finn recorded and released this first solo album in 1983 while still a member of the pioneering pop band from New Zealand that he co-founded.
