Mitchel Forman, Eddie Gomez, Jack Dejohnette - Now And Then- A Tribute To Bill Evans FLAC album

Опубликовано: 27 февр. 2015 г. Mitchel Forman - How My Heart Sings Now And Then: A Tribute To Bill Evans, Recorded at Skyline Studios, New York, December 8-10, 1992. Mitchel Forman (p) Edie Gomez (b) Jack DeJohnette (ds).

Mitchel Forman, who usually plays electric keyboards in more "contemporary" settings, sticks to acoustic piano during his heartfelt tribute to Bill Evans. Forman performs eight songs associated with the late pianist along with two of his originals. At times the pianist's style comes remarkably close to his idol, and it helps that his trio has two of Evans' most famous sidemen (bassist Eddie Gomez and drummer Jack DeJohnette) helping out. The music is tasteful and swinging and Forman's title cut is strong enough to possibly become a standard itself in the future.

Jack Johnson (also known as A Tribute to Jack Johnson on reissues) is a studio album and soundtrack by American jazz trumpeter, composer, and bandleader Miles Davis. It was released on February 24, 1971, by Columbia Records. The album was conceived by Davis for Bill Cayton's documentary of the same name, on the life of boxer Jack Johnson. Its two 25-minute-plus tracks were produced from recordings made on February 18 and April 7, 1970, at 30th Street Studio in New York City

The never before released album features Evans, bassist Eddie Gomez and drummer Jack DeJohnette and represents DeJohnette's only studio recording with Evans. The content is trademark Evans in style, with alternative versions of "You're Gonna Hear From Me" and duo (with Gomez) and trio versions of "Baubles, Bangles & Beads. The difference between this and Evans' better known trio is in the influence of a young DeJohnette who plays with a lightness on the snare that belies his ability to guide the direction of the music. Gomez worked with Evans for some time but DeJohnette, for only six months in 1968. It was, however, at a time when Evans was overflowing with novel ideas and establishing himself as a force for change in jazz. Moreover, Evans was on the cusp of moving away from swinging lyricism to becoming a musical beat-poet.

Miles later wrote in his autobiography: Jack DeJohnette gave me a deep groove that I just loved to play over. DeJohnette stayed with Davis for three years, making important contributions to prominent Davis recordings like Live-Evil and A Tribute to Jack Johnson (both in 1971) and On the Corner (1972). During this same period, DeJohnette also recorded his first albums as a leader, beginning with The DeJohnette Complex in 1968 on Milestone. He followed up with Have You Heard in 1970, then switched to Prestige, where he released Sorcery in 1974 and Cosmic Chicken in 1975. Swing is not the style of this jazz album. In my opinion, post-bop or contemporary jazz could be right.
