Cymbals Eat Guitars - Why There Are Mountains FLAC album

A beautiful album that wasn't on here.

Album · 2009 · 9 Songs. More By Cymbals Eat Guitars.

As its followed by "What Dogs See", four minutes of echoing rubble and near spoken-word mumbles, it initially seems like a pokey bit of sequencing, but the song evolves into a prelude to the deceptively bouncy "Wind Phoenix", which turns personal devastation into a sing-along. What's most admirable about this sophisticated self-released debut is Cymbals Eat Guitars' willingness to think big with gestures that shouldn't fly in the hands of a young band, instrumentally or thematically. Occasionally, albeit rarely, it leads them astray, as in the closer "Like Blood Does", where the group dawdles a bit too long before reaching its arresting conclusion.

Lenses Alien is the second album by the indie rock band Cymbals Eat Guitars, released August 30, 2011 on Barsuk Records. Cymbals Eat Guitars had gained much buzz following the release of their self-released debut album Why There Are Mountains, touring with The Pains of Being Pure at Heart in 2009 and playing at the 2010 Lollapalooza.

Later this month, Cymbals Eat Guitars will find their debut Why There Are Mountains released on Sister’s Den Records, but for now, it’s yet another victory for . Based out of Staten Island, . Cymbals Eat Guitars are indie rock, the kind that any red-blooded slacker with a Dinosaur Jr. shirt that dates back to 1992 would approve. And yet it’s also an emotive, soaring rush of an album, crafted with all the earnestness and atmosphere of more contemporary bands like Arcade Fire or The Antlers.

Staten Island-based Cymbals Eat Guitars are the latest act to be consumed by the exhaustive succubus of what it means to be a 'hyped band' but Why There Are Mountains is a record that stacks up against its doubters. For a band that has been immediately likened to Pavement and Built to Spill, it’s surprising that whilst they draw their most significant comparisons to sources that have shown up on every indie rock band's Myspace ‘influences’ list, they manage to create a sound quite unlike any of their forebearers  . If this isn’t the debut album of the year, it’s going to take a pretty bold effort to top what Cymbals Eat Guitars have created. Don't sleep on this one. Put your re-issued, deluxe version of Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain to the side.
