Perfil: Romanian Gypsy taraf (ensemble) from Clejani. Ever since the release of their first album and their appearance in Tony Gatlif's influential Latcho Drom film, Taraf de Haïdouks have been considered as the epitome of Gypsy musics fabulous vitality. Profilo: Romanian Gypsy taraf (ensemble) from Clejani.

Taraf de Haïdouks is a group of Gypsy "Lautari" (traditional musicians) who come from the little Romanian village of Clejani. The second album by Taraf de Haïdouks, entitled "Honourable Brigands, Magic Horses and Evil Eye", was recorded in Romania in 1994. Reactions were even warmer than for the 1st album ("Honourable Brigands" was for example voted best world music album of 95 by the German critics association).

Lelita Circiumareasa The 2nd album by the extravagant Romanian Gypsies was recorded in Bucharest. Just like the previous one, it offers a range of musical styles stemming from popular traditional music of Romania: ballads, love songs, dances, Gypsy melodies. Thanks to the intimate coexistence of several generations of lautari, all the repertoires meet and compete, the old style songs and those with modern arrangements.

There are times you want to laugh at this album. Not because it's awful, but from the ridiculous virtuosity of all the members of the band. And no track here shows the qualities better than the epic "The Stork Crosses the Danube, in the Company of a Raven," which showcases not only blinding fiddle playing, but also the kind of accordion playing that sounds impossible - but obviously isn't. And there's no studio trickery - this is all live.

Divanesco added 7 new photos to the album Memories - - with Taraf de Haidouks and 3 others. 1 January ·. A look into the past that leads to present days departed us this year.
