The Sixties Album s the album of the decade, the ultimate sixties collection from pop to soul to psychadelia. A mammoth musical celebration of the decade that brought you The Mini and the mini-skirt. The recordings are all by the original artists and with the exception of Tom Jones "It's not unusal" (which definitely sounds like a later recording of the song with its female chorus backing), certainly to my ears all sound like the originals hits with remastering in bringing out the clarity on a number of the tracks. Proof if needed that the 60s were the golden age of single record hits and the quality of the selection covers all styles.
These 20 duos have stood the test of time, even if their relationship was only temporary, and created sounds that are theirs alone. Key writers for Motown in the Sixties, they created some of the most enduring (and emotional) songs ever: "I'm Every Woman" for Chaka Khan, "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" for Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell, and "Is It Still Good to You" for Teddy Pendergrass. Yet the blue-eyed soul brothers enjoyed only a handful of subsequent hits, including the faux-Wall "(You're My) Soul and Inspiration," before breaking up in 1968, reuniting a few years later, and then fading into relative obscurity punctuated by nostalgic moments such as 1974's optimistic "Rock and Roll Heaven.
