Pressings sound great! Only complaint is on the gold LP, after the needle drop on both sides (I1 and J1) it jumps into the song too quick, and actually interferes w/the first few seconds of the tracks. A couple of the other LPs have very quick track starts after the drop, but nothing as noticeable as I1 and J1, and no interference.
Can anyone comment on how these sound? Any better or worse than the previous remasters/reissues?
Very, very good. Nicely pressed at RTI as well. I'm glad I sprung for the set.
My local store had around 12 leftover copies end of RSD. I'm betting this will start selling at normal price soon and flippers won't make a buck.
Ya, I've noticed over the years that box sets aren't typically extremely sought after (maybe because they're all somewhat pricey) but you usually have a good chance of scoring them for the regular price after RSD.
There were several available at my record store as well. I bought mine to listen to. It wasn't super limited so I bet it won't get flipped.
What was the original RRP before the flippers got it?
It was $120 everywhere I saw it, weird that some stores sold out but I saw one online had 10+ boxes leftover.
The suggested list price was $119.98, the cost was $87.54.
Seems to have been $129 from what I can tell online. Seems like it's already being sold on Discogs for the base price.
saw it $99 in store yesterday - give it a few weeks :)
The maximum selling price for Record Store Day pledged stores on this item is $143.99.
It's even worse over on ebay. One went for $300.
It was going for $120 near me so it isn't too high yet. Nevermind, I just saw the two sellers trying to get $200+ for it. Lousy flippers.
Saw at my local store, Fingerprints in Long Beach CA, for $119.00.
I paid $100 for this at a record store in Grand Rapids, MI
I’m seeing most online stores at $119-$129. $148 doesn’t seem too out of line.
Thanks for adding this, I tried starting a draft, but never finished itRemasters are pretty good overall, but have been somewhat loudness war-ed (Dynamic Range Meter on the tracks usually range from 8-12)Q/A: Similar to the 2009 remaster, but bassierDuty Now: Again, similar to the 2010 remaster, but more clippedFOC: Sound is slightly better than the 2009 remaster, but again, more clippedNuTra: Actually really good, considering the master tapes for this album were litterally falling apart during the mixdown. The sound is WAY more clear than the 2010 remaster, and a bit clearer than the 1997 remaster, but the 1997 remaster isn't clipped (just compressed), so take that how you will.ONID: SOOOO much better than the 1995 remaster, which sounds awful! This remaster is very clear, and the Dynamics are (almost) all in the 10's, with Speed Racer having a DR of 13 (unheard of in a modern release)Shout: It's good I guess, but not much different from the Infinite Zero remaster (which has some clicks in some tracks). This album is never really gonna sound that good, considering the Fairlight they were using could only sample at 8bit and 30.2 kHz, compared to the 16bit and 44.1kHz of CD audio.DEV-O Live: Same mastering as the Rhino Handmade release, just clipped more.Edit: After getting all the 91 pressings, I can say that all of the remasters here have been rendered outdone. It's not the remasters fault per say, as they are pretty decent for the most part, but there's simply better versions out there.
I'd be very curiosu at what would be your recommendations for the best version of each album.
