Dave Pell's Prez Conference. CD - GNP/Crescendo 2124). Dave Pell's Prez Conference was to Lester Young what Supersax is to Charlie Parker. Pell's short-lived group featured harmonized Lester Young solos recreated by three tenors and a baritone; their matchup with singer Joe Williams is quite enjoyable. Since Young was in Count Basie's orchestra when Jimmy Rushing was the vocalist, Joe Williams has a rare opportunity to give his own interpretation to Rushing and Bilie Holiday classics like "I May Be Wrong," "You Can Depend on Me," "If Dreams Come True" and "Easy Living.
not to be confused with Dave Pell's Prez Conference Featuring Harry "Sweets" Edison also on GNP Crescendo with nearly the same personnel. Now this is the Lester Young inspired solo's not a necessity LP, then or now (CD) but if your a Lester Young fan more then a Charlie Parker fan (inspired solo's) then this one is for you. One person found this helpful.
