Source: Lofting, H. (1920). The Story of Doctor Dolittle. New York, NY: Frederick A. Stokes. You see, I'd send all the old women who had sick cats or dogs to you. And if they didn't get sick fast enough, I could put something in the meat I sell 'em to make 'em sick, see?" "Oh, no," said the Doctor quickly. Looks to me as though he were scratching his ear," said the Doctor. But animals don't always speak with their mouths," said the parrot in a high voice, raising her eyebrows. They talk with their ears, with their feet, with their tails-with everything. Sometimes they don't WANT to make a noise. Do you see now the way he's twitching up one side of his nose?" "What's that mean?" asked the Doctor. That means, 'Can't you see that it has stopped raining?'"

Doctor Dolittle (also known as Dr. Dolittle) is a 1967 American DeLuxe Color musical film directed by Richard Fleischer and starring Rex Harrison, Samantha Eggar, Anthony Newley and Richard Attenborough. It was adapted by Leslie Bricusse from the novel series by Hugh Lofting. It primarily fuses three of the books The Story of Doctor Dolittle, The Voyages of Doctor Dolittle, and Doctor Dolittle's Circus. His sister, who served as his housekeeper, demanded that he dispose of the animals or she would leave; he chose the animals. Both versions were filmed and both actors recorded their respective versions, but the footage for both, as well as the vocal track by Rex Harrison have been lost to history.
