Scorn Defeat is the first full-length album by the Japanese black metal band Sigh, released in 1993 by Deathlike Silence Productions. It is the band's most traditional black metal album, taking on a uniquely disturbing and bold formula lyrically compared to their Scandinavian peers. The album takes its title from a line in the title track from Venom's 1981 album Welcome to Hell. On Scorn Defeat, the line itself is said on "At My Funeral".

Notwithstanding a handful of purely underground demos, 1991's Scorn Defeat launched one of the more unconventional careers in the history of heavy metal: that of Japanese black metal chameleons Sigh. A watershed release for the infamous Deathlike Silence label (owned by recently murdered Mayhem guitarist and Norwegian black metal instigator Euronymous), the album immediately raised the bar for symphonic extreme metal, thanks to the classical music training of its keyboard-playing leader, Mirai Kawashima.
Scorn Defeat is the first full-length album by avant-garde metal band Sigh. It is their most traditionally black metal album released. This reissue features a full remastering by Scott Hull and completely new artwork by the master, Christopher Moyen. The CD also includes the Requiem For Fools 7 (1992) and the split 7 with Kawir (1994). At first I got the wrong album in mail, but that mix up got sorted out quickly.

NotesThe Crypt have taken over vinyl duties for SIGH's "Scorn Defeat". Originally planned to be released on Enucleation Records.
3 x 180 gram heavy vinyl LPs, limited to a one time only pressing of 500 hand-numbered copies - 200 of which will be black vinyl and 300 of which will be emerald / red marbled vinyl. Housed in 2 x 350 gram semi gloss gatefold jackets featuring the both of the original DSP covers, including the original black and white Anne Marit Brenden illustration as well as the second pressing cover photo featuring Shinichi with sword.
To retain the classic feel of the original 1993 release, these 2 gatefolds are designed in the spirit of the original CD layouts with attention to detail, even down to the typeface and original DSP logos, as well as well as exclusive band photos, classic interviews and new, extensive liner notes by Mirai.
Each gatefold will contain a huge, 24" x 36" (60.96 cm x 91.44 cm) poster of each respective original cover artwork.
Both gatefolds come housed in a heavy gauge box with the original DSP cover illustration, garnished with an 2 sided obi-strip with rare band photos and classic interviews.
(Note: The above mentioned versions of "Suicidogenic" and "The Zombie Terror" are completely different than the unreleased mix of Infidel art from the triple gatefold set)
