The Game of Ouroboros" is his first attempt at creating a progressive rock album; it was released through the German label Generation Prog Records following a three-year long creation cycle. Many productions have been given the description an album of two halves over the years, and "The Game of Ouroboros" is one of those. Theo has released a rather stunning debut album with "The Game of Ouroboros". The futuristic first half and the standalone compositions in the second half all explore different varieties of vintage, ‘70s-oriented progressive rock, and do so in an accomplished and well thought out manner. Alfredson's jazz background does shine through, as jazz-oriented details are a recurring feature throughout, but while this is a much used flavoring it is still just that.

His Theo project is inspired by his love of the giants of the 70s, and this album finds him blending those influences into a highly distinctive whole over seven lengthy tracks. Alfredson’s jazz pedigree forms a framework upon which he constructs an expansive and varied work, with his keyboards to take much of the lead. The treatment of the concept (power and authority) is a little on-the-nose at times, but the album works nicely: the icy claustrophobia of The Blood That Floats My Throne develops with genuine grandeur, and closer Exile builds into a panoramic climax owing much to the Genesis template. Maybe a stronger vocalist could have been utilised, but the solid instrumentation throughout (Zach Zunis’ guitar on the title track is stunning) makes this is an impressive debut.

Theo also represents a return to the concept of the keyboardist as a vital and irreplaceable part of the group, rather than a mere sideman. The intrepid and dynamic music is paired with auspicious lyrical themes of corporatization, consumerism, loss of innocence, exile, and the obsession with celebrity. Lead vocals are handled by Alfredson himself.
