This album may be Otis Redding's best overall compilation, not forgetting "Otis Blue" his best performance as a whole. The Dictionary Of Soul", "Dock Of The Bay", and "The Immortal" also hold up well in the limited Redding catalog. It may not be essential, but this album did produce a couple of Top 20 R&B hits ("Love Man" and "A Lover's Question") and it captures Otis during his most productive period. Once you have his key records, pick this one up. It's definitely worth a listen.

Love Man doesn't hold together quite as well as Redding's best proper albums, such as Otis Blue and Complete and Unbelievable: The Otis Redding Dictionary of Soul, but it also manages to avoid sounding like a collection of out-takes and leftovers; as an album it's significantly stronger than the average R&B release of similar vintage, due to.
I'm a Love Man Call me the Love Man Oooh, baby I'm the Love Man That's what they call me I'm a Love Man Six feet one weigh two hundred and ten A Long hair. album: "Love Man" (1969).
Otis Redding is dead. He was a good, no, a great performer, but he’s survived by several other major figures - Wilson Pickett, Joe Tex, Joe Simon, Sam and Dave are all still with us. They deserve our support today. All this is by way of philosophical reflection - please don’t throttle me yet. I even like Love Man, which offers more of the phenomenally rich Otis/Booker T. s/Stax-Volt horn section sound. As for the Love Man himself, the album includes several of his very strongest performances on record. For I’m a Changed Man, Otis dips into his scat bag, ya-ya-yaing to beat the band (which keeps right up with him instead). Next, Otis takes the vocal straight, flashing and cutting through Higher and Higher like a knife, while Duck Dunn’s bass rolls and tolls like Booker . s organ.
