Cowboy Songs is a compilation album of phonograph records by Bing Crosby released in 1939 featuring Western songs. Crosby had recorded cowboy songs for the first time in 1933 and he had a huge hit with "The Last Round-Up" that year on the Brunswick label. He recorded Home on the Range for the first time then also.
Western Cowboy Ballads and Songs 1925-1939. The Frémeaux & Associés release Western Cowboy Ballads and Songs 1925-1939 compiles the early recordings of all the famous cowboy songs one would expect plus plenty more which never rooted into American popular culture of the era as deeply. The Gal I Left Behind Me," "Cattle Call," "Home on the Range," and "Oh! Suzannah!" are all collected here alongside the amazing performance by the Sons of the Pioneers of the dark, yet joyous, "Hold That Critter Down" and Powder River Jack Lee's humorous and cocky run-through of "Tying a Knot.
Cowboy was an American country rock and southern rock band formed in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1969. The group's main members consisted of songwriters Tommy Talton and Scott Boyer, alongside a rotating group of musicians. They released four albums on the Capricorn Records label in the 1970s: Reach for the Sky (1970), 5'll Getcha Ten (1971), Boyer and Talton (1974), and Cowboy (1977). The song "Please be With Me"–perhaps their best-known song–featured a performance from Duane Allman.

Rhinestone Cowboy was a hit song for Glen Campbell, which tells the tale of a musician who’s just surviving, but will live to see the day that his success shines.
Cowboy songs proper date way back into the 19th century, and they'd been collected in a couple well-known songbooks by 1910, but the rocking ones here all hail from the '70s to the '90s - which makes them nostalgia for nostalgia ad infinitum, but don't hold that against them. The '70s selections from Thin Lizzy, Marshall Tucker Band and spaced-out Steve Miller expressly feature "cowboy" in their titles, but what dominated then were rock dudes wielding six guns (Bad Company), riding under a full moon over a Rocky Mountain range (. Alice Cooper does a "Desperado" number and so do the Eagles, who went so far as to dress the part on the album cover of that name.
