A soundtrack album is any album that incorporates music directly recorded from the soundtrack of a particular feature film or television show. The first such album to be commercially released was Walt Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the soundtrack to the film of the same name, in 1938. The first soundtrack album of a film's orchestral score was that for Alexander Korda's 1942 film Jungle Book, composed by Miklós Rózsa.
The original Belle pre-dated that Frank Loesser classic, however; it was an 1897 musical by Gustave Kerker and Hugh Morton!) Like many of the best MGM musicals, there’s a strong element of the fantastic in The Belle of New York. Astaire literally walks on air when romance wins him over in Deutsch’s Love is Walking On Air which leads into the song and dance set piece Seeing is Believing. The song’s languid, romantic melody is accompanied by Conrad Salinger’s yearning string arrangement.
MP3 Music, August 22, 2000. Disc 1 is the Original 1965 movie soundtrack album, with 16 tracks sequenced as the songs appear in the movie. Disc 2 features extended versions of selected songs as heard in the film, numbers not included on the Original Soundtrack Album, and an interview with composer Richard Rodgers. Although future Soundtrack re-issues (one about every five years) would combine everything to one disc for a total of around 27 tracks, this 2 disc presentation provides a unique listening experience. This CD presents the tracks from the original RCA album, in more dynamic sound than on previous CDs, in sound that positively shines. These tracks intermingle with the Captain's first version of Edelweiss with Liesl, the Laendler and the Sixteen Going on Seventeen reprise.
Featured New Releases. The CD includes the original soundtrack with seven supplemental tracks (four of which were previously unreleased), plus a second disc featuring 20 different versions of the tracks from the original movie that were previously recorded for different films. These tracks are taken from movies such as The Broadway Melody (1929) and Babes in Arms (1939), and they feature versions of the title track from 1929 (by Cliff Edwards) and 1940 (by a young Judy Garland.
