Counting Crows discography. Counting Crows discography. Adam Duritz, lead singer of Counting Crows. Counting Crows's debut album, August and Everything After, was released in September 1993. The album charted within the Top Five of the Billboard 200. August and Everything After was certified seven-times platinum in Canada by the Canadian Recording Industry Association and seven-times platinum in the United States by the Recording Industry Association of America. The band's second album, Recovering the Satellites, peaked at number one on. the Billboard 20. .Recovering the Satellites. Released: October 14, 1996.

Counting Crows gained popularity following the release of its debut album, August and Everything After (1993). Featuring the breakthrough hit single "Mr. Jones" (1993), the album sold more than seven million copies in the United States. The band played only two gigs in 1995. This allowed Duritz to write a set of songs that became the band's second album, Recovering the Satellites. Released October 15, 1996, it was heavier than August and Everything After, perhaps due to the addition of second guitarist Dan Vickrey, who had joined in early 1994

Probably Counting Crows second most popular song following Mr. Jones. Such an awesome song it's really catchy both the singing and the piano. The smell of hospitals in winter and the feeling that it's all a lot of oysters and no pearls". makes you talk a little lower about the things you could not show her" "I cant remember all the times I tried to tell myself to hold on to these moments. For their second album, Recovering the Satellites, Counting Crows crafted a self-consciously challenging response to their unexpected success. Throughout the record, Adam Duritz contemplates his loss of privacy and sudden change of fortunes, among other angst-ridden subjects

But for all his vocal histrionics, Recovering the Satellites is remarkably complacent stuff, a bland blend of the most obvious influences, from REM to Springsteen, manipulated in a way that steadfastly avoids originality as if the very notion were tainted by some plague. Save for the occasional woozy whiff of Mellotron or Wurlitzer, there's none of the questing musical spirit REM exhibited on New Adventures in HiFi, for instance, just the glib surface similarity of tracks like "Angels of the Silences". T-Bone Burnette, who produced Counting Crows' previous album, August and Everything After, has been dropped for this follow-up - which seems a little ungrateful, given that the debut went sextuple-platinum in America alone.
