Modest Mouse - This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About FLAC album

This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About is the debut studio album by American rock band Modest Mouse, released on April 16, 1996 by Up Records. Many of the album's tracks focus on traveling by automobile and the loneliness associated with rural life. All lyrics written by Isaac Brock; all music composed by Modest Mouse. Isaac Brock – guitar and vocals (drums on "Dog Paddle"). Jeremiah Green – drums (bass on "Dog Paddle"). Eric Judy – bass (guitar on "Dog Paddle").

The album was released on Up Records on April 16, 1996, on both compact disc and vinyl formats. Many of the tracks on the album focus on traveling by automobile, and the loneliness and isolation associated with rural life. More Modest Mouse albums. Strangers to Ourselves.

The Lonesome Crowded West is the second studio album by American rock band Modest Mouse, released on November 18, 1997 by Up Records. The two towers pictured on the album's cover are The Westin Seattle. The album was reissued by Isaac Brock's Glacial Pace label in 2014, along with Modest Mouse's 1996 debut This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About.

The Modest Mouse of the 2000s was very of its time, when indie rock was turning more porous and mainstream. The Moon and Antarctica from 2000 clothed their decrepit strains in major label finery and production by someone outside of their local bubble, Califone's Brian Deck. The record also let in influences that were not yet entirely indie-approved, such as dance music on "Tiny Cities Made of Ashes". Morbid lyrics and backmasked guitars notwithstanding, "Gravity Rides Everything" was catchy enough to sell Nissan Quest minivans. During this time they veered off into a wilderness of their own devising, debuting with the darker and tauter This Is a Long Drive for Someone With Nothing to Think About on Up Records in 1996. That and their second Up album, 1997's The Lonesome Crowded West, have just been reissued by Brock's Glacial Pace label.

Dramamine," for instance, with its driving, mid-tempo beat and ricocheting guitar line, sums up the hopelessness of a doomed relationship, while the frantic "Head South" deals with the feeling of "being ashamed of your old space. The mandolin, slide guitar, and cello featured throughout the album give the songs a certain degree of depth that makes them stand out from average indie rock fare.

The trio recorded Long Drive at the K Records studios in Olympia, the same place they had recorded Sad Sappy Sucker – the unhinged, unofficial debut album they recorded in 1994 and 1995 but that wouldn’t see a proper release until 2001. The production on Long Drive is no frills and lo-fi, typical of the DIY recording ethos of K Records. It was produced by Steve Wold, who records his own rough-hewn blues under the name Seasick Steve.

this is in my opinion Modest mouse's best album. i listened to this album for so long that wenever i went to wright a song on guitar it would end up being something off of this CD. this record is the one that defined there sound early on and they stuck with it for a good 5 or 6 more cd's. good news is one of the cd's that was created to please the listener instead of producing brooding heart felt music

Long Drive is a road record in more ways than one but the unifying thread is Brock’s matter-of-fact paranoia. Whether he’s getting up just about noon ( Custom Concern ), changing his mind so much he can’t even trust it ( Talking Shit About A Pretty Sunset ), or traveling swallowing dramamine ( Dramamine ) Brock pulls no punches on himself. Long Drive contains the two best Modest Mouse songs ever written– Dramamine and Exit Does Not Exist, both of which perfectly distill Brock’s lyrical genius and his rare gift for singing against the weight of his words. Dramamine builds a drum pattern that the band would revisit for a much bigger track in a much bigger year, Ocean Breathes Salty and encloses in it a guitar effect that sounds for all the world like a seagull.

Modest Mouse is one of the highlights in music of recent years. Their sheer earnesty and love for music and ideas has propelled them all the way to a major record label (EPIC). But let's take a look at their road to major-label status  . After hearing this album, as with any Modest Mouse offering, you feel as if you're a changed person. The genuine lyrics mixed with inspired music can instantly change your mood. I recommend this CD to anyone, ever, who has any appreciation for music at all. The recording quality is good, the composition of tracks is superb (as always). It's Modest Mouse at its best, which puts it easily among the best CD's I've ever heard.

So, I have a copy of this album, and on side 'D' it has the wrong songs. Instead of having Make Everyone Happy, Space Travel is Boring, Edit the Sad Parts, and A Manic Depressive..., it has the songs from side 'D' of Lonesome Crowded West, Polar Opposites, Bankrupt on Selling, Lounge, and Styrofoam Boots. I've never come across something like this before and I was wondering if anybody else noticed this?
HappyLove
It can't be an original pressing, because The Lonesome Crowded West didn't exist when this was released.Or Modest Mouse just travels through time, as they claim on The Ground Walks...
Tane
Did anyone else notice Dramamine is misspelled on side A? Mine has "Dramanine" written as the first track.

Hah! I was about to post that up when I saw your comment (now 1.5 years ago)! Anyhow, wonder if that typo is on every copy or just this pressing ...
Anardred
You made me look and yes, you're right! Mine as well.
