Besnard Lakes, The - are the dark horses FLAC album
The Besnard Lakes Are the Dark Horse (sometimes referred to a. .Are the Dark Horse) is the second studio album by the Canadian rock band The Besnard Lakes, released in 2007 (see 2007 in music). The album was The Besnard Lakes' first release on indie label Jagjaguwar and was self-produced by bandleaders Jace Lasek and Olga Goreas. It was nominated for the 2007 Polaris Music Prize. All songs written by Olga Goreas, Jace Lasek, and Nicole Lizee.
As the title of their second album makes plain, the Besnard Lakes are indeed the dark horses of a Montreal indie rock community that has consumed so many column inches in the music press over the past three years, a band that's often stood on the periphery of greatness- they opened the Unicorns' 2004 North American tour, while singer/guitarist. Jace Lasek's Break Glass Studio produced Wolf Parade's Apologies to the Queen Mary and Sunset Rubdown's Shut Up I Am Dreaming- but never tasted it themselves

The latest in a stream of educated musicians out of Montreal, the Besnard Lakes aspire to combine the experimentalism of Godspeed You Black Emperor with the compositional skills of Brian Wilson. Their second album is composed largely of eerie songs about deceit and aggression, several of them unexpectedly heavy, such as the bleak For Agent 13 and the anthemic Devastation.
