Kenny Dorham is a jazz trumpeter who found first fame with bop in the late 1940s. He continues his exploration of that genre's more melodic side on the TIME Records LP, JAZZ CONTEMPORARY (52004). Dorham's career began as a sideman in Dizzy Gillespie's big band. There was dues-paying with Billy Eckstine, Lionel Hampton and Mercer Ellington before Kenny landed in Charlie Parker's Quartet in '48. By 1950, he was known in the jazz world and had a solid career during that decade with Art Blakey's Messengers, his own short-lived Jazz Prophets and the Max Roach Quintet. Studio album by Kenny Dorham Quintet. December 9, 1960 New York City.
