Too, the sound quality is very good, as is the annotation, with profiles of the various men behind the program's music, even if it disappointingly doesn't say who the guitarist was behind the classic spiky spy music guitar licks of the series' theme  .

Ron Grainer: Australian composer who worked for most of his professional career in the United Kingdom. He is mostly remembered for his television and film score music, especially the theme music for Doctor Who, The Prisoner, Steptoe and Son and Tales of the Unexpected. The Prisoner soundtrack has music from more than one composer. The main theme is from Ron Grainer. This is a fabulous theme and it is now iconic in its own right. Ron Grainer had previously composed music for TV including Doctor Who. He later worked on other British shows such as Man in a suitcase, Tales of the unexpected and he also composed for films, The rest of the music comes from mainly Albert Elms an English composer who worked mainly in TV and films. In the TV series there were other pieces of music that were already established compositions by various composers and they were not original to the Prisoner. Most of these came from library stock and are not included here. This release focuses mainly on the original compositions. Also during the actual TV series only short extracts of some pieces were used but here you get the full version of the pieces.

The original arrangement, however, was very gentle, electric harpsichord-heavy, and almost downright respectably baroque, and if nothing else, McGoohan was likely responsible for scrapping that version and commissioning this revision instead-bold, powerful, upbeat, blasting trumpets and timpani and twin guitars like nobody’s business. Jenny Wren with Ron Grainer & His Orchestra (1978). I remastered the audio from the soundtrack & the third version is from the LP album. Because Delia Derbyshire’s original arrangement of Ron Grainer’s theme seems to get all the attention, I present to you here Peter Howell’s 1980 version.

Tyler Is Not Here
I never heard of Ron Grainer before, but clearly, I know his music due to my obsession with the TV series "The Prisoner." I can spend hours just watching the opening credits to the show, where secret agent No. 6 (Patrick McGoohan) resigns in anger and is seen being kidnapped and taken to the island, which resembles a retirement home for lunatics. Within two minutes one has the flavor as well as the narrative of the show. Equally exciting is the soundtrack theme to "The Prisoner."Ron Grainer wrote the central theme, and the rest of the music that was on the show is a combination of his work, and various British composers who worked in the Film Library world. At times, playful, sinister, and classic Spy theme music all rolled in one package. British sounding to the core, and not that different from the aesthetics of various English shows of the time: "The Avengers," "Saint," and even McGoohan's old show "Secret Agent Man" (or in the UK "Danger Man"). Still, this is a spy TV show that hints of the avant-garde, or the theater of the absurd. A limited run show that had a beginning, a middle, and an end. In that format, it is like a structured version of "Twin Peaks," but with the intensity of McGoohan's participation. It's odd that I have at least three albums that are based on Parick McGoohan's film/TV works. Perhaps it's not the music itself, but the presence of this great actor/producer/director.
