Aldo Ciccolini (Italian pronunciation: ; 15 August 1925 – 1 February 2015) was an Italian-French pianist. Aldo Ciccolini was born in Naples. His father, who bore the title of Marquis of Macerara, worked as a typographer. He took his first lessons with Maria Vigliarolo d'Ovidio, and entered Naples Conservatory in 1934 at the age of 9, by special permission of the director, Francesco Cilea. There he studied piano with Paolo Denza, a pupil of Ferruccio Busoni, and harmony and counterpoint with Achille Longo. He began his performing career playing at the Teatro San Carlo at the age of 16. However, by 1946 he was reduced to playing in bars to support his family.

Biography by Uncle Dave Lewis. Ciccolini enjoyed a long and varied career, but to many his name is most readily associated with Erik Satie. Déodat de Séverac: L'oeuvre pour Piano. Valse romantique Déodat De Séverac; Aldo Ciccolini. 7. Waltz for piano in G-Flat Major, D. Anh. I/14 - Franz Schubert; Aldo Ciccolini. 8. La plus que lente, L. 121 Claude Debussy; Aldo Ciccolini. With this album, Maestro Ciccolini has produced the most varied programme of his entire recording career: thirteen works and thirteen composers. This recital is organised around two pillars, the most extended pieces on the programme, two waltzes that are extremely difficult and at the same time of great interest: Fauré's third Valse-Caprice o. 9, which propels us into the environment of a certain Parisian aristocracy, and Gabriel Pierné's suite Viennoise, very different in character, which comes very close to the world.

Paris (AFP) - Italian-born French piano virtuoso Aldo Ciccolini died overnight at his home in the Paris area after a long illness, his manager said Sunday. Ciccolini was known for promoting leading French composers such as Debussy and Ravel as well as the lesser-known Valentin Alkan, Deodat de Severac, Emmanuel Chabrier and Alexis de Castillon. He applied his virtuosity, both in the concert hall and the recording studio, to composers as diverse as Bach and Rachmaninov, Grieg and Borodin. In 1972, he won the prestigious Prix de l'Academie du Disque Francais, and three years later his mastery of Ravel earned him the Prix de l'Academie Charles Cros en 1976
