The Soul Album is the fourth studio album by American soul singer-songwriter Otis Redding, released in 1966. Otis Redding - vocals. Booker T. Jones, Isaac Hayes - keyboards, piano. Floyd Newman - baritone saxophone.

For three years, from 1966 to 1969, Minit Records made a serious run for recognition on the soul charts. They made a fine effort, despite less than expected sales, and artists like Bobby Womack, the O'Jays and Ike & Tina Turner went on to bigger and better things elsewhere. The Young Hearts' "I Got Love for My Baby," made a big splash on the charts; it has a Far East-type opening and features Ronnie Preyer's sweet falsetto complemented by James Moore's rough, soulful tenor/baritone; it was their biggest hit and did quite well in many markets.

Soul music combines traditional American gospel and rhythm & blues (R&B) style, collecting catchy hooks, heavy improvisation and a tense vocal sound. The music has become synonymous around the world with "funk" as well as deep emotional expression. Top soul artists include Ray Charles, James Brown (known as the "Godfather of Soul"), Sam Cooke, Solomon Burke, Aretha Franklin and Etta James.
