The Farthest Reaches Lyrics. Music written by Cary Geare, words written by Josh Miller) The quest to steal the crown the ruler of, the gods himself Can't stop me now the legions guard the gates The journey will be so long where I have gone None of dared to venture, beasts and titans Creatures from the depths and heavens will all attempt To stop what will.

The songs on The Farthest Reaches are, generally, pretty short – only album finale The First, The Serpent is over five minutes – and these creative flourishes make them play out like mini-prog masterpieces. Of course, giving boners to tech heads isn’t the only thing that sets SOA apart from the pack. If anything, I wish Son of Aurelius allowed themselves to get even crazier. Do they have a Planetary Duality in there somewhere? I’d wager they do. The Farthest Reaches has been in my heavy rotation for weeks now, and I think these dudes have only just scratched the surface of their talents. AR. Tags: Son of Aurelius.

Son of Aurelius is a new technical death metal band who look like they're still in high school (they may be). They discussed their debut The Farthest Reaches in the June Decibel, so I decided to pick it up. For tech-death, these guys are not particularly brutal. With few exceptions (. But I gave it a second listen, and decided to take it on its own terms, not mine  . The Verdict: Son of Aurelius shows a lot of potential on this album. Technically they are very proficient, and they seem extremely young, so they've got time to grow into their songwriting skills. Not a particularly impressive debut.

As I listen to The Farthest Reaches, the debut album by Santa Cruz, California band Son of Aurelius, I ask myself, Why have I not heard these guys before" To say I am impressed with their debut is a bit of an understatement; this could be one of the better albums to come out in the year 2010. As soon as the first notes of opening track, Mercy for Today, hit my ears, I knew I was in for a ride. With ear piercing vocals, blistering guitars going all over the place, and stellar drumming, Son of Aurelius does not lack in talent.
