Hi-Tension were a British band based in North London, seen as pioneers of Brit funk. The band started out as Hott Waxx in the early 1970s. They included Phil Fearon (Galaxy and Kandidate) and Lloyd Phillips (Kandidate), brother of guitarist Paul, before becoming Hi-Tension and riding high on the Brit funk wave with the tracks, "Hi Tension" and "British Hustle".

Hi-Tension isn't a masterpiece, but the uptempo funk selections (which draw on influences ranging from Kool & the Gang and Earth, Wind & Fire to Brass Construction) are generally catchy and enjoyable. Also pleasing are the LP's romantic slow jams, which include "Autumn Love" and the War-influenced "You're My Girl. This respectable, if imperfect, LP didn't sell in the . but if you're discussing British R&B of the 1970s, it's an album that has to be mentioned.
This 1978 slice of nice is the Bside of the more known Hi-Tension though I prefer this fender Rhodes driven sultry number. A lot of so called Brit Funk had a decidedly jazzy rhodes driven vibe. Growing up it had a direct connection to NYC dance floors whether it was being played at clubs like Paradise Garage, The Roxy or The Mudd Club it was a a part of all things dance floor driven in the late 70s and early 80s in NYC. Acts I would consider brit funk would include Level 42(StarChild), Central Line (Walking Into Sunshine) Freeez ( IOU, Southern Freeeze), Delegation ( Oh Honey) Light Of The World (London Town) and of course Imagination who had a huge US hit with Just an Illusion.
