About It’s a Small World. This song is written for the legendary Disneyland boat ride of the same name, where children from all over the world sing for world peace. The ride originally opened on April 22, 1964 as one of the four attractions Walt Disney presented at the 1964-1965 New York World’s Fair to showcase his new ride technology Audio-Animatronics, a technology which enables the animatronics to move in sync to the recorded soundtracks much akin to how his animated characters move. As a testament to the song’s longevity, it has become one of the most recognizable tunes of all time and.

It deals with reminiscence upon youth and romantic idealism. Mary Hopkin's 1968 debut single of "Those Were the Days" (producer, Paul McCartney) became a number one hit on the UK Singles Chart

It's not Gypsy, though intentionally resembles Russian Gypsies songs that were very popular over here in late 19th-early 20th cent. Famous Russian crooner Alexander Vertinsky was one of the first to record it in 1929. The correct name of the song is 'Dorogoy Dlinnoyu' (not 'Darogoi Dli Mayou', this simply makes no sense in Russian). Kaurismaki directed their video of 'Those Were The Days' in 1992. The Russians were the 70 member Alexandrov Ensemble with whom they sang the Lynyrd Skynyrd song 'Sweet Home Alabama' at the 11th Annual MTV Music Awards at the Radio City Music Hall in New York in 1994. This performance was watched by an estimated 250 million people.

While this isn't traditional bluegrass by any means, it's still rootsy acoustic music, due to both the instrumentation and choice of songs, which are, with the exceptions of Tommy James' "Crimson and Clover" and John Lennon's "Imagine," firmly within the folk and folk-rock tradition of the '60s.
