This 1960 album is Wynton at his best, with the great Paul chambers on bass and Philly Joe Jones on drums. Frankly, an a piano trio this group easily competes with the best of them, including anything Red Garland, The Three Sounds or other popular piano trios were recording at the time. Individually, each musician was world class. While some may quibble over which pianist from that era was the top, I think most would agree that Kelly was somewhere in that group, with Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones in an even more solid standing among bassists and drummers. The ASIN for this dual album is B000056K4H. As I write this, it costs 2 pennies less to get the two albums than this Kelly at Midnight here.

This 1960 date was a first-rate trio outing with Kelly given the space to demonstrate subtlety and flair, harmonic precision, melodic brilliance and rhythmic diversity. He was backed by a pair of rhythm dynamos, bassist Paul Chambers and drummer Philly Joe Jones. While a CD session less than 33 minutes is a bit short considering current prices, there is no complaint about the music's beauty.
Wynton Kelly- Kelly Great, Kelly at Midnight, and Wynton Kelly! ADVERTISEMENT. Like Chambers, pianist Wynton Kelly’s recorded output falls into several distinct segments. The remaining Kelly material consists of two whole discs worth of the finest piano trio jazz of its kind. Kelly at Midnight featured Chambers and Philly Joe Jones, while Wynton Kelly! and a sizable number of additional performances issued in various forms over the years sported the team of Chambers and Cobb.
