Baden Powell de Aquino, usually known simply as Baden Powell (Brazilian Portuguese: ; 6 August 1937 – 26 September 2000), was one of the most prominent and celebrated Brazilian guitarists and guitar composers of his time. He combined classical techniques with popular harmony and swing. He performed in many styles, including bossa nova, samba, Brazilian jazz, Latin jazz and música popular brasileira. He performed on stage during most of his lifetime.
Recorded in 1970, Canto on Guitar is widely considered to be one of Baden Powell's best albums. The first track of the album is "Samba em Prelúdio," which is the album's only track with real lyrics (written by the poet Vinícius de Morães and sung here by Powell himself). The first of these three compositions is called "Pai" and would reappear on Powell's 1971 album Estudos
