Eric Clapton is the debut solo studio album by British rock musician Eric Clapton, released in August 1970 under Atco and Polydor Records. After being successful with bands including The Yardbirds, John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, Cream and Blind Faith, Clapton recorded an album under his own name in late 1969 and early 1970. The album cover shows Clapton sitting in a room which is going to be decorated and in which a ladder, a chair and some carpets are placed.

On March 20, 1991, Eric Clapton suffered a parent's worst nightmare. In a heartbreaking tragic accident, Clapton's -old son, Conor, fell out of an open window in the high-rise New York condominium he was living in with his mother, actress and Italian television personality Lory Del Santo.

Interestingly, ERIC CLAPTON was the first album by the guitarist not to feature a blues cover. This would not occur again until the 1986 release of AUGUST and the 2005 release of BACK HOME. Delaney and Bonnie’s band were all talented musicians and guest artists such as Stephen Stills and Leon Russell also contributed to the album. Instrumentally however, one of the consistent pleasures of this album would have to be the excellent work of the rhythm section comprised of bassist Carl Radle and drummer Jim Gordan
