CTI Records (Creed Taylor Incorporated) is a jazz record label founded in 1967 by Creed Taylor. CTI was a subsidiary of A&M before becoming independent in 1970.

Written-By – George Benson. Written-By – Paul Desmond. Written-By – George Benson. In Concert - Carnegie Hall ‎(LP, Album).

This Giants of Jazz volume collects a number of the finest early sides cut for RCA by Paul Desmond with Jim Hall, who played together on and off until Desmond's death from cancer in 1975. The Victor recordings are varied, featuring sides cut with small groups, duets, and large groups with strings. There isn't anything here that isn't worth listening to but, that said, there are far better collections, from Desmond Blue to his l970s sides for CTI that pair the two in much more interesting circumstances than these.

Jim Hall, who was classically trained, took jazz guitar in another direction, while others, like Pat Martino, helped refine the style. Then along came Wes Montgomery, whose debut Riverside album, The Wes Montgomery Trio, released in 1959, signalled a new dawn for jazz guitar. Every jazz guitarist who followed has been inspired and influenced by Montgomery, who died at just 45 years old, in 1968. From Shreveport, Louisiana, Brown is stylistically indebted to Wes Montgomery and George Benson. He recorded three albums for Motown’s Mo Jazz imprint in the early 90s, and this, his second, issued in 1994, was the best (and most successful) of them. Its centrepiece is a slick yet soulful cover of Janet Jackson’s midtempo ballad ‘That’s The Way Love Goes’, which highlights the fluid lucidity of Brown’s melodic lines and his ability to ride a groove. Killer cut: ‘That’s The Way Love Goes’.
