June by Brendon Anderegg, released 15 June 2018 1. June The music of Brendon Anderegg is a hall of mirrors, multilayered and self-obscuring. In recent years, Anderegg has become sought after for his film scoring and audio work with his studio Telescope Audio, contributing to Emmy-nominated films 102 Minutes that Changed America and 9/11: The Days After for the History Channel, and working with clients from ESPN to Laura Poitras’ Praxis Films.

Brendon Anderegg’s music has long been keyed to subtlety. In the early 2000s, recording solo under just his surname, he harnessed field recordings, tape loops, and electronics into crackling, rustling configurations not much more forceful than the scrape of a turned page. His duo Mountains, with Koen Holtkamp, channeled acoustic instruments into blissfully shimmering soundscapes imbued with the scent of the American heartland-a homegrown riposte to European cosmic music (he also occasionally mixes and engineers videos for Pitchfork’s video team)
Unlike that famous Russian guy who wrote War and Peace, I prefer things be simple and easy to understand rather than shrouded beneath a veil of ambiguity and intellectual redundancy. Take Brendon Anderegg’s forthcoming solo album, for instance: that sucker is due out this coming June on Thrill Jockey and thus has aptly been given the title, er. une. Just the straight-up facts, and I can dig that
New York based avant-gardist Brendon Anderegg may be known for his work with Koen Holtkamp as the duo Mountains, but his solo works which slowly spread their way across the 2000s are also of note. Quietly working for Apestaartje and Psych-O-Path he now joins the Thrill Jockey powerhouse for his debut solo LP. Also working as a sound artist for film, Anderegg crafts immersive soundscapes which hark back to the early days of synthesis and musique concrete with a clear understanding of mood and the need to evoke. June explores a myriad of multi-tracked drones and timbres that will appeal to fans.
