The box set contains the 1989 original version of the band's debut studio album, Pretty Hate Machine, on 180-gram black vinyl, as well as the original 12-inch singles for "Down in It", "Head Like a Hole", and "Sin" on 120-gram black vinyl. The title Halo I–IV refers to the first four catalog numbers in Nine Inch Nails' discography.

Halo numbers are sometimes modified for variations of a release, such as the different versions of The Downward Spiral.

Nine Inch Nails has also contributed to numerous film soundtracks as well as the soundtrack to the video game Quake. Initial ambitions for Nine Inch Nails in 1988 were to release one 12-inch single on a small European label.

Halo I-IV is centered on Trent Reznor's seminal 1989 album Pretty Hate Machine, and collects four LPs: the original 12"s for "Down In It", "Head Like A Hole", and "Sin", plus Pretty Hate Machine in its original configuration. Nine Inch Nails ‎– Ghosts I-IV. The second contains the standard 2CD album set, the album on Blu-Ray in 24 bit/96 kHz high resolution stereo (with an accompanying slide show) and a data DVD with multitracks for remixing. The Data-DVD has two additional ghosts tracks not found on the album elsewhere. The file format for the multitracks is 16 bit/44. 1 kHz wav with each song being compressed in its own zip file. This DVD also contains the album in 320 kbps MP3, 22 wallpapers, web graphics, and the PDF file included with the web release of the album.

first play of PrettyHateMachine album, Side A... Head like a Hole skipped only once shortly near the very end of the song. the rest of side A sounded flawless except maybe up to 3 small quick quiet pops. ...I guess I should consider myself extremely lucky to have a copy as almost-flawless as possible considering everyone else's comments.I'm using an AT-LP120-USB which apparently is a very good turntable, so if you think that matters, that's what I'm using.Side B sounded perfectly flawless to me. Excellent album! This remaster sounds fantastic!

my copy of PHM is annoyingly plaqued with skips and pops, how do I go about getting a replacement? Annoyed because the other discs sound great.

I contacted Bicycle MONTHS ago, and was assured they would be sending a replacement. Nothing yet. He keep telling me they are waiting for them to be repressed again

I agree that this PHM sounds like the same master as the previous UMe release that was plagued with issues. My copy from this skips in the repeat of the first chorus of Head Like a Hole just like the other release does. Like others have said the 1.5xLP 180g remaster release is vastly superior anyway. Down in it: No defects and sounds good.Pretty Hate Machine: Disappointing that this master is still in use. I stopped it halfway through side A to play the 2010 remaster.Head Like a Hole: Track B1 has an imperfection before the first chorus that skipped on the first play through and mildly popped on following plays. Aside from that there were no problems and was enjoyable.Sin: No issues at all and sounds very clean.Overall I like this release. I got it after RSD for $60 and at $20 each for the playable LPs I'm happy. Even if PHM had been a different master that had no flaws I would still play the remaster instead. If there is ever a V-VIII(or more likely a V-VI & VII-XII) I will definitely be picking them up.

I just got a replacement PHM from the label, however that too still has skips, just not as bad. They will not replace my Head Like A Hole that skips as well. I'll have to remember that The Bicycle Music Company is not accountable for their products.

Same here. The replacement vinyl that I got from Bicycle Concord was so scuffed up that it looks like a used copy they bought at a flea market. Same pressing, same issues.They need to repress. This is unacceptable.

Can confirm, the Head Like a Hole track on PHM is rife with defects, making the track unplayable. Skips on other tracks, as well. Now, i seriously doubt this is any official sort of release that Trent had anything at all to do with. Noticeable, tiny divots in the record, definitely not the fault of the player.

After receiving my replacement vinyl which was also flawed, I reached back out to them to let them know that the leftovers from the 2011 pressing of PHM that they used for this limited edition box set were flawed to begin with and that they should have repressed flawless records for the limited edition box set. Small though they maybe, they are responsive and say that they are working to make things right.

That's strange. I have no issues with my copy of PHM whatsoever. Sounds like a higher than acceptable percentage has issues though so contacting Bicycle Company may be the best course of action.

That explains all the skipping. Sucks that they just used leftover stock instead of repressing this to clear up defects.I haven't heard anything back from Bicycle either.
