Queen II is the second studio album by the British rock band Queen. It was released on 8 March 1974 by EMI Records at midnight in the UK and by Elektra Records in the US. It was recorded at Trident Studios and Langham 1 Studios, London, in August 1973 with co-producers Roy Thomas Baker and Robin Geoffrey Cable, and engineered by Mike Stone

When the Queen II album came out in 1974, those who heard it were impressed and spiritually uplifted. Queen had arrived in style and Freddie could give up his weekend job and concentrate on the great times that lay ahead. Published on. March 8, 2019. What became Queen II was done and dusted in that hot month. Realising that as songwriters Mercury and May had radically different lyrical agendas – Brian the guitarist preferring a personal or emotional slant, while Freddie the singer liked to operate in realms of the phantasmagorical – it was decided to give the record a loose concept, splitting the material into ‘White’ and ‘Black’ sides to match the light and shade of the songs.

In one regard, Queen II does indeed provide more of the same thing as on the band's debut. Certainly, of all the other albums in Queen's catalog it bears the closest resemblance to its immediate predecessor, particularly in its lean, hard attack and in how it has only one song that is well-known to listeners outside of their hardcore cult: in this case, it's "Seven Seas of Rhye," which is itself more elliptical than "Keep Yourself Alive," the. big song from the debut.

The most important thing to me was the Queen II album going into the charts - especially satisfying that, since the first one didn't do so well. It's nice to see some recognition for your work though I don't usually worry too much. Roger tends to worry more about what's happening on that side. Roger Taylor - May 1975, Record Mirror. I hated the title of the second album, Queen II, it was so unimaginative.

Queen released their second album 'Queen II' on March 8, 1974. Initially, critics didn't take too kindly to Queen's new sound. Although the British press had been mostly kind to the band's first album, they afforded a cooler reception to Queen II when it was released on March 8, 1974. In fact, the only thing that really slowed them down was May's health: Stricken with hepatitis, he had to bow out 41 shows into the Queen II tour.
