Some Chimeras is a music studio album recording by IXTHULUH (Psychedelic/Space Rock/Progressive Rock) released in 2014 on cd, lp, vinyl and/or cassette. Now I got the new CD Some Chimeras and played within a week several times. This is typical Ixthuluh food, extended fusion-jams far out. However, and this is surprising, is the fact that the recording quality of this CD is much better than that, what Ixthu.

Chimeras (sub-titled A Child’s Adventures in the Realms of the Unreal) is an album of contemporary classical music by American composer John Zorn featuring a 12 part piece inspired by Arnold Schoenberg's atonal composition "Pierrot Lunaire". In 2010 the album was revised and re-recorded, with an additional "Postlude".

Ixthuluh is a krautrock band from Austria. Started in 1975 with jazzrock the band soon changed in an own direction, you can assign soonest to psychedelic krautrock. Founded by Dita Lasser (guitar/vocals), James Geiblinger (bass guitar), Max Wedl (saxaphone) and Michael Brandstetter (drums) the band was named Ixthuluh since spring 1976. Influenced by some krautrock and progressive bands they started early on looking for their own sound.

The group bought an old farmhouse in 1977 and changed from the band Ixthuluh to the Kollektiv Ixthuluh. Totally five disks document the work history. The group disbanded at the end of 1981. The best album is Tea At Tw.

Some of them are newly remixed. Additionally we also have two previously unreleased tracks as a 'candy for the hardcore fans'. So at the end the band IXTHULUH presents nearly 75 minutes with improvised music which are standing for a turbulent phase in the 70s. Very experimental and unique according to the situation the band recorded the songs. Well - is it Krautrock from Austria or 'only' Psych? Everybody has to find the right answer on his own. The album starts with a Medley of excerpts from the first release - very jazz rock oriented jams with a differing sound quality

Writing for Pitchfork Media, Alexander Lloyd Linhardt stated "the piece itself is thrillingly diverse, suddenly going from luminous to lugubrious and from classical to chaotic. It's a bold, unexpected new chapter in Zorn's corpus, or it would be if we didn't expect that from him". The Free Jazz Collective stated "it can be described as an absolute musical nightmare.
