Mescalero or Mescalero Apache is an Apache tribe of Southern Athabaskan Native Americans. The tribe is federally recognized as the Mescalero Apache Tribe of the Mescalero Apache Reservation, located in south central New Mexico. In the nineteenth century, the Mescalero opened their reservation to other Apache bands, such as the Mimbreno (Chíhéõde - "Red Paint People", also known as Warm Springs Apaches) and the Chiricahua (Shá'i'á-õde or Chidikáágu), many of whom had been imprisoned in Florida

Mescalero is the fourteenth studio album by the American rock band ZZ Top. It was released in September 2003, as the band's final release for RCA Records. While the band still retained their foundation in blues rock, Mescalero explored genres like country and Tejano. Recording sessions took place at Foam Box Recordings in Houston, with Billy Gibbons as producer.

Narrator: The family’s most important task is selecting Dachina’s medicine woman. Narrator: The ritual begins with the rising of the morning star. The ceremony requires Dachina to live by strict rules. Narrator: These four days mean little sleep, scant food and the need to set aside emotion.
