An Appointment with Mr Yeats is the tenth studio album by The Waterboys, released on 19 September 2011 through W14/Proper Records. The album contains 14 tracks, all of which are based upon the poetry of . Yeats, a long term influence on lead-songwriter Mike Scott. Scott premiered the tracks which would make up the album, as well as those produced previously, as part of the An Appointment with Mr Yeats concerts from 2010 onwards.

The idea that the poetry of Ireland's William Butler Yeats could be set to rock music and captured adequately (let alone eloquently) by Mike Scott and his Waterboys sounds pretentious at the least. Yet, they proved it possible with "Stolen Child" on Fisherman's Blues, then with "Love and Death" off Dream Harder. The former was born a Catholic, became an atheist, and eventually found spirituality in nature and the occult.
An Appointment With Mr. Yeats returned to Dublin on 7 November 2010 in the city's Grand Canal Theatre. The show was performed at the Barbican Hall, London in February 2011. The album version of An Appointment With Mr. Yeats was released on 19 September 2011 and reached the UK Top 30. 2014 - present. Dream Harder was described as "disappointingly mainstream", whereas the sound of the A Rock in the Weary Land was inspired by alternative music and was praised by critics. For 2003's Universal Hall, however, Wickham had once again rejoined the band, and that album saw a return of the acoustic folk instrumentation of the late 1980s Waterboys, with the exception.
Morrissey has so far denied us an Oscar Wilde album, but Mike Scott has wanted to set his favourite poet to music for 20 years. Unveiled as a live homage in Dublin last year, this appointment melds W. B. Yeats’s mystical couplets to Irish prog rock. Tread softly because you tread on my dreams, Yeats warned, but Scott’s troubadour delivery and astute orchestration don’t trample over Song of the Wandering Aengus and Mad as the Mist and Snow. An Irish Airman Foresees his Death is flattened, but this is playfully reverent rather than pretentious, and largely successful as a result
