Is problem solving decision making a specific type of decision making, a complementary process, or a redundant term? In many cases the terms "problem solving" and "decision making" are used interchangeably. In anything other than the most basic problems, there will be a step in the problem solving process that requires choosing a solution among alternatives. This step in the problem solving process is why problem solving and decision making are often seen as highly integrated. It is also easy to frame complex problems as decisions. Often Human aspect of problem solving becomes very important. Group Phenomenon: The assumption that a group of people can solve problems better than a single individual. However, there are also some factors that might affect the problem solving process. The manager places high value on maintaining good relations and prefers to accept convictions of others rather than push his own views. He tries to avoid conflict, but when it does arise he tries to soothe feelings. Communications are good in a (5,5) environment. There is a basic assumption that people will work if you tell them why it is necessary. The (5,5) relies heavily on systems. Many managers realized that their own private system for handling problems and making decisions simply did not work well. Any decision based on a false cause is going to be ineffective, wastefully expensive, and sometimes downright dangerous.

Problem-solving includes fixing agendas, setting goals and designing actions and decision-making is evaluating and choosing the options thrown up by problem-solving actions. Both of these processes should happen effectively to address general and local problems. In this age, it is not just humans but machines that hold the abilities and skills which make problem-solving and decision-making possible. To bring it (decision-making) within the scope of human thinking powers, we must simplify our problem formulations drastically, even leaving out much or most of what is potentially relevant. The growing relevance of descriptive theories is forcing prescriptive theories (SEU, for example) to amend their methods and assumptions. The elements of unrealism are being replaced by what is actually attainable.
In psychology, decision-making (also spelled decision making and decisionmaking) is regarded as the cognitive process resulting in the selection of a belief or a course of action among several alternative possibilities. Every decision-making process produces a final choice, which may or may not prompt action. Decision-making is the process of identifying and choosing alternatives based on the values, preferences and beliefs of the decision-maker.

If the discovered solution is sufficient, the process may then be abandoned.
