Arrogance's debut album, the self-released, self-produced LP Give Us a Break, came out in 1973. A more acoustic folk style had, by then, replaced the early hard-rock, but the trademark vocals, harmonies and smart lyrics were very much in evidence. The sound became more upbeat when percussionist Ogie Shaw was replaced by drummer Steve Herbert and the result was Arrogance's second self-labeled LP, Prolepsis, coming out in 1975. By now Arrogance was amassing a substantial following of dedicated fans and headlining at regional clubs like Town Hall, The Pier and The Cat's Cradle even though they insisted on playing original music. unheard of by audiences in those days and unfathomable to club owners, but Arrogance was good enough to make it work.

Arrogance (also called Hubris) indicates strong pride or acting extremely self-important. In particular, a loss of contact with reality and overestimating one's own competence or capability. Arrogance is also associated with lack of humility and love toward oneself. Examples include making oneself far more important than others or superiority. Children raised around arrogance may be arrogant themselves.

Arrogance helps us to reject others before they can reject us. It’s a way to prevent them from hurting us. It is, therefore, more common to behave arrogantly towards strangers, out of fear of rejection. If we are emotionally insecure, showing ourselves to be superior to others or showing off our qualities or achievements will help us feel better in the short term. However, it is not an effective long-term strategy, for several reasons: Once we’re alone, we’ll feel just as insecure. Arrogance makes people care a great deal about what others think of them. They depend on the approval of others. Sometimes, people behave arrogantly to win attention that they can’t get otherwise. People tend to skip dealing with a difficult person and in turn give in, this being positive for the arrogant person. Arrogant people are dominant. Dominance can have all kinds of benefits.

Lady Antebellum’s sixth studio album Heart Break is set for release later this spring, the result of group members Dave Haywood, Charles Kelley and Hillary Scott holing up in a rented house in Florida, where they lived and worked under the same roof. They followed that experience with a Pacific Ocean retreat in Southern California. With only two exceptions, the 13 tracks on the new LP feature all three members as co-writers, with multiple contributions from such collaborators as Maren Morris producer Busbee, Nicolle Galyon, Sara Haze and Will Weatherly.
