Built To Spill - Perfect From Now On FLAC album

Perfect From Now On didn’t mark some dramatic fulcrum in the band’s trajectory-the album sold well enough to begin a relationship with Warner Bros. that, remarkably, only wound down last year. Its follow-up, 1999’s Keep It Like a Secret, was a return to more compact songwriting and subsequent albums have generally followed suit, to surprisingly little diminishing returns. But none of them feel as of a piece as Perfect. On a recent Thursday night in Brooklyn, Built to Spill-now comprised of Martsch, Steve Gere on drums, and Jason Albertini on bass, the same lineup BTS has had since 2015’s Untethered Moon-played to about 250 people between stops on a co-headlining tour with Afghan Whigs. Martsch seemed to only have brought one guitar with him, so changing a broken string or between-song tuning became exercises in long, stubborn, almost performatively awkward silences.

Then there’s Built to Spill’s Perfect From Now On which is perfect (pardon the pun) for one simple reason: It’s ing awesome. To delve into the tired story of how Built to Spill went from making fun and poppy indie rock to emotionally weighty and epically grandiose guitar heroics on Perfect From Now On, seems alternately useless and intrinsic. You just can’t ignore it, because it simply adds to the awesomeness of the album. It’s a surprise akin to Radiohead’s OK Computer, which should prove a sufficient enough comparison to leave it at that. This album is simply a must own for any indie kid, but it doesn’t stop there. The guitar work will also please many resident metal heads and classic rock kids who have an open mind towards music. While it’s not shredding, finger tapping guitar work, it’s still impressively arranged and perfectly executed.

Built to Spill is an American indie rock band based in Boise, Idaho. The band has released eight full-length albums. Their most recent, Untethered Moon, was released on April 21, 2015. Former Treepeople guitarist/vocalist Doug Martsch formed Built to Spill in 1992 with Brett Netson and Ralf Youtz as the band's original members. In an interview with Spin, Martsch stated that he intended to change the band's lineup for every album, himself being the only permanent member.
Perfect from Now On manages the amazing trick of being one of the band's best albums, with Martsch and company using the opportunity of larger budgets and distribution to create an album at once inspiring and quietly emotional, not the easiest combination to pull off. With drummer Scott Plouf and bassist Brett Nelson as the other core performers, plus second guitarist Brett Netson and cellist John McMahon as key guests, the result is astounding all around.
