Thin White Rope is one of the great indie bands, and should be better recognized. Superb guitar work, unique Guy Kyser vocals, elliptical lyrics, and NEVER a throwaway cut. I have everything they did, and keep coming back to them. The One That Got Away is quite possibly the greatest live rock album ever. Already great songs are held up on massive walls of squalling feedback as Thin White Rope - the most criminally neglected rock band of the 80s and early 90s - go out with a bang. This is the only CD I own that someone's asked me to stop playing because she was frightened by it; not because she thought it was bad, but because she thought it was genuinely terrifying. And at times it is, but it's also occasionally deeply, surreally funny ('Elsie Crashed the Party', anyone?).

Album Exploring the Axis. Down in the Desert Lyrics. Karl went south and walked out on his hometown He said it was nowhere, he'd find a new job and stay there Karl went south like he'd fade if he stayed there It scared him, he felt claustrophobic and needed some air.
Biography by Jason Ankeny. West Coast alt-rockers whose desert rock sound featured twin guitars and a hint of twisted psychedelia. The Ruby Sea. See Full Discography.
Thin White Rope was an American rock band fronted by Guy Kyser and related to the desert rock and Paisley Underground subgenres. The band released five albums. The name "Thin White Rope" was derived from William S. Burroughs' description of human semen in Naked Lunch. Steve Tesluk (bass) and Frank French (drums) joined the group in 1983, replacing Staydohar and Becker, both of whom left to join True West. Spoor released: 1995.
Thin White Rope was led by singer/guitarist Guy Kyser, whose harsh, tightly coiled vocals and unsettling lyrics combined to give the band its edge; in the group's first incarnation, Kyser was joined by guitarist Roger Kunkel, bassist Kevin Staydohar (soon replaced by Steven Tesluk), and drummer Jozef Becker. While Thin White Rope's 1985 debut Exploring the Axis flirted with neo-psychedelia, the 1987 follow-up Moonhead upped the ante by allowing the desperation of Kyser's lyrics to take full command of the music. Though garnering little notice stateside, Thin White Rope earned a solid fan base in Europe, and even became the first American independent-label act to tour the Soviet Union. Spoor, a collection of demos, remixes, and rare tracks, followed two years later.
