Martin Barre - Back To Steel FLAC album

Back to Steel Martin Barre.

Martin Lancelot Barre (/bɑːr/; born 17 November 1946) is an English rock musician best known for his work with progressive rock band Jethro Tull, with whom he recorded and toured from their second album in 1969 to the band's initial dissolution in 2012. In the early 1990s he went solo, and has recorded four studio albums and made several guest appearances. He has also played the flute and other instruments such as the mandolin, both on stage for Jethro Tull and in his own solo work.

Between Ian Anderson’s flute and Martin Barre’s guitar, a whole new forest was open to play in. But it was in March of 1971 that their popularity would rise to surreal heights with the release of their fourth album, Aqualung, and over the next few years their popularity would continue to grow. Barre joined the band in 1969 following the departure of Mick Abrahams (Tony Iommi was briefly a member of Jethro Tull in the interim) and was a major component of the new direction they would be heading. This fall, Barre has produced his third solo album in as many years, a record he has titled Back To Steel. A lover of music, he has formulated a cornucopia of sounds this time around, starting with an upbeat snazzy title track, a version of the blues classic Smokestack Lightning with that perfect Martin Barre twist, a couple of Tull songs, a Beatles track and some pretty special tunes of his own creation.

Martin Barre - "Back to Steel" - Blues Garage - 1. 1.

Martin Barre has been the guitarist of Jethro Tull for 43 years, his sound and playing having been a major factor in their success. Album sales have exceeded 60 million units and they continue to be played worldwide, representing an important part of classic rock history. Martin’s guitar playing has earned him a high level of respect and recognition; he was voted 25th best solo ever in the USA and 20th best solo ever in the UK for his playing on 'Aqualung'. His playing on the album ‘Crest of a Knave’ earned him a Grammy award in 1988

With ‘Back To Steel’ he further carves out his own niche and a trajectory which, in truth, started back in 1994 with Trick Of Memory. But this is also a more integrated band album, rather than a true solo album. Perhaps it should even be billed The Martin Barre Band? Martin’s fans will lap this up again. There is always great attention to detail in the arrangements. He doffs the cap to his former employer/heritage with fairly straightforward – if attractive – versions of ‘Skating Away’ and ‘Slow Marching Band’ whilst the inclusion of ‘Eleanor Rigby’ will delight those who have caught Martin.

Well produced but still with a simple, live, sound feel. 2 people found this helpful.

That’s still his modus operandi on new album Back to Steel, but the record is a bigger showcase for Barre’s songwriting than any previous album. Of the 15 cuts on Back to Steel, 11 of them are Barre originals.
