With Strange Peace, Metz have created an album that still largely has one foot rooted in the best of their past, but sees the other stretching forward into a future that is just as riotous. Long may it continue.
METZ is the eponymous debut album by Canadian band METZ, released October 9, 2012 on Sub Pop Records. METZ's musical style has been described as hardcore punk and noise rock. NME compared the album's sound to early 90s grunge. With respect to specific artists and albums, critics have cited The Jesus Lizard, The Sonics, Jawbox, Drive Like Jehu and Nirvana's Bleach as influences.
II is the second studio album by Canadian noise rock band METZ, released internationally on May 4, 2015 on Sub Pop. It was released a day later in North America. II was produced by the band, and engineered by Alex Bonenfant and Graham Walsh. Walsh is best known as a member of Toronto-based electronica band Holy Fuck.
Strange Peace is the third album from the Toronto noise-rock outfit METZ, and it's anything but peaceful. Starting with their self-titled debut for Sub Pop records, the trio of singer-guitarist Alex Edkins, bassist Chris Slorach, and drummer Hayden Menzies has raised a healthy if unholy racket, a sound that sits somewhere between the dissonant aggression of Shellac and the off-kilter hooks of Pixies.
Since then, the Toronto based trio have firmly stuck to their DIY ideals, building a reputation for crafting full throttle, low down and dirty garage rock. Strange Peace - Very Good, Based on 10 Critics. 80. Since then, the Toronto based trio have firmly stuck to their DIY ideals, building a reputation for crafting full throttle, low down and dirty garage rock. It was a fair expectation that new album Strange Peace would feature eleven songs anchored on a bed of sonic venting and controlled chaos, and their third record does indeed largely follow their two prior in being a riff heavy and riotous affair.
Album · 2017 · 11 Songs. The first thing one hears on METZ’s Strange Peace is an engineer’s announcement that tape is rolling. The second is what sounds like a construction site settling into a pretty good groove. The band rarely lets up from there, grinding out post-punk so noxious and ugly it ends up feeling strangely cleansing-like a bath, but with bleach.
