Monolake ‎– Alaska Melting. Alaska is an incessant, driving dub techno piece. The sort of thing I wish DC cough would try and make. With a beefed up tempo, glitched dub stabs, rolling clattering hi-hats, and big FM bass notes, the tune ends up a winner. I would even dare to say it's a little short. Melting is a little more atmospheric, its main draw is the washed-out pads that ebb gently in the background.

Monolake - Alaska Melting After their superlative early work on Chain Reaction ('Hong Kong' being one of the label's finest releases) Berlin duo Monolake have become increasingly concerned with complex sound design and intricate rhythmic structures. Unfortunately the results have often tended to be rigid, abrasive and alienating. The gorgeous hiss and condensation which clung to 'Cyan' and 'Occam' - the results of cheap mics, primitive reverb and a relaxed approach to production – were surgically banished to founding member Robert Henke's beautiful solo.
