The Costello Album, also The McCartney/MacManus Collaboration, is a Paul McCartney album that includes work from his 1987–88 songwriting collaboration with Elvis Costello. The album includes demo recordings made by Paul and Elvis in the throes of their collaboration, other demos of some songs by Costello and McCartney individually, live performances by Costello, and two duo live performances taken from a 1995 benefit concert at the Royal College of Music.

The Specials is the debut album by British ska revival band The Specials. Released on 19 October 1979 on Jerry Dammers' 2 Tone label, the album is seen by some as the defining moment in the UK ska scene. Produced by Elvis Costello, the album captures the disaffection and anger felt by the youth of the UK's "concrete jungle"-a phrase borrowed from Bob Marley's 1972 album Catch a Fire but equally apposite used here to describe the grim, violent inner cities of 1970s Britain.

Declan Elvis Costello MacManus was by far the most literate and diverse of the angry young man songwriters emerging from England in the late 1970s, no small achievement in light of competition that included first-rate talents like Graham Parker, Joe Jackson, John Lydon, Shane MacGowan, and the Strummer/Jones pairing of the Clash. Elvis’s terrific 1977 debut came at the height of punk rock, and the ensuing series of masterworks that mark the astonishing early portion of his recording career overlapped with the punk outgrowth commonly referred to as New Wave

They are the only band from the 60s that continues to sell and inspire people. You can't say that about too many bands these days. Yay Beatles is number one This band totally deserves the top spot. This band changed the sound of rock music. They were the first to be fully intergrated sexually with two men and two women. Their vocal harmonies were, and remain, unparalleled. They would be more up if they had wrote their own songs like the Beatles but great band I love stepping stone.

Costello‘s third album is all tightly wound paranoia. The concept is personal politics; the original title was Emotional Fascism, and one song is called Two Little Hitlers. The keyboard-driven sound of Accidents Will Happen helped define New Wave. It's one of the weirdest Motown records ever. Gaye's divorce settlement required him to make a new album and pay the royalties to his ex-wife – the sister of Motown boss Berry Gordy.

Sometimes an album contains just one indispensable song. Other albums are like sets of chairs. Unsurprisingly, I favor songwriters over players, but any hit parade of great singers would have to include Johnny Hodges. Making this list made me listen all over again. If your shelf can stand it, I recommend a few boxed sets. Anthology of American Folk Music, compiled by the great Harry Smith from rare 78s, seems like a trip to another planet, yet it is really just humans singing and playing in the not-so-distant past.
