Although not an improviser, Coleman could swing, as he shows on these performances with the assistance of such fine players as trumpeter Art Farmer, altoist Gigi Gryce, and pianist Hank Jones; highlights include "It's You or No One," "Social Call," and a remake of "This Is Always.

The whole album follows in a similar suit – blending Latin, jazz, and soul with effortless ease – shifting between English and Spanish lyrics in a genre-busting style that really captures all the freshness of the era. The whole thing's great, and titles include "Asi Soy", "Alafia", "Triste", "Mujer Divina", "Oh Yeah", "Sock It To Me", and the "Bang Bang" follow-up, "Push, Push, Push". Earl's piano is flowing and free, and the band grooves through. LP, Vinyl record album.

It should be noted that "Hippy Heaven" and "Banana-Loo" were taken from this LP and issued as a 45 by Worthy, presumably in 1967. I haven't had the chance to hear the LP, but "Hippy Heaven" is a great slice of latin LSD-sploitation, the song being about the singer's girlfriend who jumped out of a window while high on acid.

Indeed (and not since the Everly Brothers' Ebony Eyes have I heard anything so tragi-comic)
