Ropin' the Wind is the third studio album by American country music artist Garth Brooks. It was released on September 2, 1991 and was his first studio album to debut at No. 1 the Billboard 200 chart and the Top Country Albums chart. It was the first album by a country singer to top both of these charts since Kenny Rogers did just over a decade earlier

With Ropin' the Wind, Garth Brooks begins to make his '70s rock influences more explicit. Naturally, that is most notable in his reworking of Billy Joel's "Shameless," which he transforms from a rock power ballad into contemporary country. But that influence is also evident on ambitious epics like "The River" and even the honky tonk ravers of "Papa Loved Mama" and "Rodeo.

Garth made history with Ropin' The Wind, because not only was this record a country album, but it started out at on Billboard's pop charts and went on to match the sales of its predecessor, No Fences. Indeed, I found a lot to like about this record. Rodeo", written by Garth's buddy Larry Bastian, is probably the best song I've heard about what it's like to be a rodeo performer(and how the rodeo gets in the way of everything else)
